Rose’s 190 lb Weight Loss

When I started out I weighed 335lbs. In just under 3 years I have lost over 190 pounds, over 18 clothing sizes, and 18 different medications as well. My Keenfit Walking Poles helped me get healthy and love myself again!

Hello!

My name is Rose, and I’m 60 years young!  As a youngster – I was always a normal weight.  That began to change after 3 pregnancies, the deaths of 2 husbands, being a single parent with 2 children, my nursing career – working 70-80 hours a week in a pressure cooker as an RN.

Do I have your attention???  Can you relate to this?  It’s the same old story with many women & mothers who put everybody first, neglecting our own need for physical activity, personal time + so many other things that degrade our health, wellness + self-esteem.

My own weight and health problems escalated out of control.  I was almost 200 pounds overweight, diagnosed with type two diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism, arthritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, allergies, asthma, peri-menopause with the lovely hot flashes, depression, anxiety, sciatica, edema, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis. Doctors prescribed 19 different medications for me – which made me even more sick.

I knew I had to make a change and I thought I can start by walking.  I got my Keenfit poles in 2008 and started using them in the house.  The poles were the only form of exercise I was able to do because of my joint issues.  I soon discovered that I was able to walk around the block, then I could double that distance after 3 or 4 months.  Yes, it did hurt, but hey, I was on the move again, and this boosted my mood and I could see that I really could do it!  The endorphin rush was a bonus!!

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia- but it did not make sense to me as I did not have all the symptoms.  I did not give up on my walking even though I was in pain. I eventually learned that I would need a new hip and part of my rehabilitation was to walk, so I used the Keenfit poles.   In a few months, I was walking 3 miles a day.  I eventually got rid of my walker and cane- it made me feel fantastic.  With the 190 pound weight loss, I got rid of 18 medications (except Thyroid). I accomplished all of this in under 3 years.

Today, I Keenfit walk three times a week, for a half hour. I have added bicycling too and some weight training @ home.   I changed my eating habits over time and now my foods are clean, whole, organic, kosher, and sometimes vegan.  Everything I eat has to have protein in it.  The Keenfit walking has helped me maintain control and it’s so fun!   I have my self-respect and pride back.  I love me!  I am proud of what I have achieved, and I am here to tell you, “You can do this, too! – it’s as easy as taking a walk!
